Support Financial Education

NCUF will focus on financial education initiatives through REAL Solutions.

February 27, 2011

Young adults believe that making better choices about managing money is the single most important issue facing individual Americans today, according to a recent Charles Schwab survey.

That’s one of the many reasons the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) is making financial education a priority for 2011.

As the charitable arm of America's credit union movement, NCUF offers programs and grants providing widespread financial education, creating greater access to affordable financial services, and empowering credit union members to build assets.

We’ll continue in that direction, but our primary focus will be on financial education initiatives through REAL Solutions [http://www.ncuf.coop/home/news/subnews/ficep.aspx] and grant-making to credit union organizations across the country.

Through REAL Solutions, we’ll work to bring these financial education programs to national awareness:

CUNA’s Credit Union Financial Counseling Certification Program. Credit union employees learn how to counsel members to prepare for their future and to assist them when they’re faced with financial difficulties.

Reality fairs. We’ll encourage more leagues to work with credit unions to host these innovative financial fitness fairs. We also plan to conduct a comprehensive national study of credit union-provided financial education.

In addition to REAL Solutions, NCUF also helps fund Biz Kid$, the award-winning educational television show on PBS stations in 50 states. It will continue to fund innovative financial education grant projects in communities around the country.

After all, the more consumers understand their finances, the more people can achieve financial freedom.
