Check Imaging For ATMsDiebold Inc., North Canton, Ohio, now offers ImageWay™ ATM software, an electronic check-imaging solution for ATMs. ImageWay, expedited by an image workflow transition solution from Alogent, Alpharetta, Ga., is an open, end-to-end deposit automation solution available for the self-service delivery channel. ImageWay enables financial institutions to capture check images and transaction data at the ATM and seamlessly process and route them through the entire item processing system. By leveraging electronic check images and transaction data, ImageWay substantially reduces the cost and increases the speed of check processing, paving the way for check truncation. With the addition of ImageWay, Diebold has further expanded its range of self-service solutions. ImageWay ATM software can be used with Diebold Opteva™ advanced-function ATMs and ix Series® terminals. "Financial institutions are eager to migrate to check imaging at the ATM to improve the quality of the deposit transaction for the consumer," says Thomas W. Swidarski, Diebold’s senior vice president, strategic development and global marketing. "With the introduction of ImageWay, we've also provided our customers with a deposit automation and check image transfer solution that can generate savings, accurately assign float, reduce fraud from empty envelopes, and further increase consumer reliance on self-service delivery channels. Considering all these advantages, financial institutions will be quick to incorporate check imaging in their operations." While the ATM is the preferred channel for withdrawals, consumers have been less eager to rely on ATMs for deposits. This is because envelope deposit transactions typically don't verify the contents of the envelope at the time of the transaction and can’t immediately provide the consumer with an acknowledgement of the deposit envelope's contents. With the capture and presentation of the check image and transaction data at the ATM via ImageWay software, consumer confidence is increased, leading to an increase in deposit transaction volume. Check imaging has been shown to greatly increase reliance on self-service terminals, and to further reduce the need for teller assistance. In fact, the addition of check handling allows the ATM to accommodate as much as 85% of all consumer-facing teller activities. By integrating Alogent's payment processing software technology with Diebold's self-service solutions, ImageWay ATM software provides financial institutions with a Check 21 solution that delivers an unparalleled level of value and performance.
