What's One of Your Goals for 2004?
by Eugene H. Johnson
One goal for Rita Haynes, president/CEO of First Community United Credit Union, Cleveland, is to send staff members to continuing education programs. She attended the three-year Community Development Institute in Manchester, N.H., home to the nation's first credit union, St. Mary's Bank.
The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (NFCDCU), New York, sponsors that institute. Haynes is completing her third term as NFCDCU chair, and calls her credit union career a ministry. "I learn how to use these financial tools and all the skills that God gave me to help the community," she says.
David Mooney, president/CEO of United Airlines Employees Credit Union, Chicago, has a similar goal: "To provide growth and development opportunities for our people. In this business, we have two raw materials--our deposits and our people. Money is a commodity. The high ground is execution--your ability to engage, mobilize, and develop a talented workforce."
Ken Bordelon, president/CEO of E Federal Credit Union, Baton Rouge, La., plans to "keep up with what's going on--technology and new rules and regulations, such as Check 21."
Bordelon also plans to continue his executive education.
