Credit unions offer a better choice for personal financial services. A lot of us work extremely hard to help consumers understand the difference between credit unions and other financial institutions. It’s exciting to see those efforts pay off and help people understand they do have a choice when it comes to financial institutions.
Receiving the scholarship award was a career highlight. I’m honored to be part of a group of young leaders who share a common vision for the future of the credit union industry.
Winning the award at the World Credit Union Conference in Spain allowed me to meet many people from around the world who are passionate about credit unions, and I know I'll keep those connections throughout my career.
It’s another amazing opportunity to network with other young leaders who are passionate about the potential credit unions represent for consumers. I’m currently working with the [Connecticut Credit Union League] to launch a young credit union professionals networking group that mirrors the 30 Under 30 group.
The credit union industry has a challenge to attract the next generation of members, employees, and volunteers. It’s important to build a network of future leaders and provide a strategic vision for an industry that must focus on its future.
I definitely have a “work hard, play hard” mentality. When I’m working and managing deadlines I focus on those projects, challenges, and successes. But I certainly know how to let go and enjoy my time away from anything that might cause stress.
Be passionate about your idea and show why it’s new and exciting. However, when I suggest a new product, service, or program I back it up by describing the new audience it will attract, the impact it will have on the bottom line, and how it will benefit the organization over time.
Saturdays are usually a combination of housework and then something fun when I’m done. I love living near the water, so in the summer you’ll likely find me there. In the fall, I watch Michigan State football games [she’s from Michigan]. I enjoy exploring the East Coast, a lot of which is still new to me.
I’d travel the world and see new places. I’ve visited some great destinations, but there are so many others I want to see. I was able to check off Spain after the WOCCU conference. Greece, Italy, and Australia are still on my list.
I ran my first half-marathon this year—actually, it’s the first road race I’ve done. I’d like to run it again in 2010. I own a condo in Michigan and have been renting it out. I’d love to sell it so I can start thinking about buying a home in Connecticut. (Anyone need a condo in Michigan?) And, as always, I’ll sneak as much travel into the year as I can.
Bad decisions make good stories!
“Dune Road,” by Jane Green. She’s one of my favorite authors. I purchased it at a book signing where I was able to meet her. She spoke about her writing techniques and gave some insights into the process of writing a novel. She even pointed out some things about the book readers might not have noticed on their own.
Witty, grounded, independent, and loyal.
